According to witnesses, the safari group had just stopped near a watering hole to observe a small herd of elephants. Everything seemed peaceful until a startled bull elephant suddenly changed direction and charged aggressively toward the parked van. Tour guides later explained that the animal might have felt threatened or was protecting its young.
